The British Embassy in Kyiv is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for an Energy Advisor to cover for the duration of the permanent job holder's maternity leave.
Main purpose of job:
Roles and responsibilities:
Follow and report on local developments in energy sector. Provide policy recommendations, advice and briefings to the Embassy team (including the Ambassador) and across Whitehall (particularly the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, the International Energy Unit, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and the Department for Business and Trade). Key issues include:Implications and impact of war on key energy assets and systems, including nuclear power;Reform of energy legislation, regulation and state-owned energy enterprises;State of ‘winterisation’ and the resilience of the energy system through winter;Climate and environmental implications of war and the need for Ukraine to rebuild its energy system in a greener, more efficient and sustainable way and to restore environmental damage.3. Work across teams, including:
The Embassy’s Programme Team to ensure that UK aid is delivering impact in the energy, climate and environmental sectors;The trade team to support UK businesses vying for commercial deals in the energy sector;The defence team to follow the military situation around key energy assets;The humanitarian team to support efforts to keep the lights, heat and water running through winter.Don't miss out on this fantastic opportunity!
Essential qualifications, skills and experienceOur Ideal Candidate shows:
Fluent written and spoken Ukrainian and English at a minimum of C1 level according to the CEFR*;Completed university degree in an energy-related subject;Knowledge of the Ukrainian energy sector;Ability to work across multiple teams;Proactivity, flexibility, and strong team working skills;Ability to work on own initiative, often without direct supervision;IT literacy, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Kyiv is subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Ukrainian employment law. This is an official employment, and the salary is subject to official tax; currently 23%. The salary is a set rate and there are no additional allowances on top.
