Who we are:
The British Embassy in Kyiv is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Finance Officer.
Main purpose of job:
The Finance Officer will ensure robust financial management and compliance across projects.
Roles and responsibilities:
1. Budget Management
Profile project budgets accurately at the start of each financial year.Update budgets in-year to reflect any changes.2. Forecasting & Monitoring
Ensure project financial forecasts are realistic.Monitor forecasts throughout delivery and update regularly.3. Risk Management
Assess and manage project financial risks (under/over/delayed spend) promptly.Implement mitigation strategies that ensure projects spend on time and within budget.4. Financial Reporting
Check implementing partners’ financial reports for accuracy and completeness.Ensure timely submission and compliance with reporting standards.5. Payments & Compliance
Process payments to implementing partners on time.Record actual expenditure in line with FCDO Resource Accounting rules and maintain accurate financial records in FCDO systems.Ensure expenditure is eligible and does not exceed approved budgets.Finance Officer will also support UKISF Finance Manager with portfolio-level financial management and reporting, and deputise when needed.
They may be expected to contribute to British Embassy Kyiv’s wider corporate objectives, for example by participating in committees, crisis response, learning and development, programme assurance etc.

Essential qualifications, skills and experienceOur Ideal Candidate shows:
Full professional proficiency in English and Ukrainian (written and spoken, minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework or equivalent).Minimum three-years’ experience in financial management, particularly budgeting, forecasting, and financial risk analysis. Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills, with accuracy and thoroughness when working with financial information.Familiarity with donor-funded projects and contract compliance.Excellent time management and organisational skills; ability to manage workload, deliver at pace, and prioritise effectively whilst maintaining quality.Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills; ability to build productive, respectful relationships quickly, including with external stakeholders.Excellent communication skills (written and oral) to provide balanced, sound advice and represent FCDO in external meetings.Strong Excel skills.Commitment to ethical financial practices and anti-fraud measures. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Kyiv is subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Ukrainian employment law. This is an official employment, and the salary is subject to official tax; currently 23%. The salary is a set rate and there are no additional allowances on top.
