Position Description
This position will lead and manage the Translational Research Program at TTUHSC, SOM-PB, ensuring the successful translation of basic scientific discoveries into clinical applications. This role encompasses strategic planning, research oversight, laboratory operations management, and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. The Director will also oversee all laboratory operations within the program, ensuring efficient, compliant, and high-quality research activities.Major/Essential Functions
Strategic Leadership:Develop and implement the strategic vision for the Translational Research Program.Establish and maintain the program’s goals, objectives, and performance metrics.Identify emerging trends and opportunities in translational research to inform strategic direction.Research Management:Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of all translational research projects.Foster interdisciplinary collaboration among clinical and basic science researchers.Ensure that research activities comply with ethical standards and regulatory requirements.Laboratory Operations:Manage the daily operations of the research laboratory, ensuring efficiency and high standards.Oversee the procurement, maintenance, and utilization of laboratory equipment and resources.Ensure that laboratory practices adhere to safety protocols and compliance regulations.Team Leadership and Development:Recruit, mentor, and manage a team of researchers, laboratory staff, and administrative personnel.Promote a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning within the team.Provide professional development opportunities and support for team members.Grant and Funding Management:Identify and pursue funding opportunities from federal agencies, private foundations, and industry partners.Oversee the preparation and submission of grant applications, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.Manage the program’s budget, ensuring optimal allocation of resources.Partnership and Collaboration:Establish and maintain partnerships with pharmaceutical and biotech companies, academic institutions, and other stakeholders.Facilitate collaborative research projects and clinical trials with external partners.Represent the program at conferences, symposia, and industry events.Evaluation and Reporting:Implement metrics to evaluate the success of research projects, partnerships, and laboratory operations.Prepare and present regular reports on the program’s progress, outcomes, and impact to senior leadership.Ensure transparent and effective communication with all stakeholders.Preferred Qualifications
Experience:2 or more years of experience in an academic medical center or similar research environment.Track record of publications in high-impact journals and experience presenting at national and international conferences.Pay Statement

Education:PhD or MD/PhD in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., molecular biology, biochemistry, clinical research).Experience:Minimum of 5 years of experience in translational research, with a proven track record of leading and managing research programs and laboratory operations.Proficiency in laboratory management and compliance.Track record of successful grant writing.Jeanne Clery Act
