Data Engineer Manager

 

The Data Engineer Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining scalable data projects within JTI’s Central Data Lake Platform, ensuring efficient and high-quality support for globally relevant applications and projects under the governance of the Data Platform and Operations team. Key responsibilities include:

Data Integration and Pipeline Development: Analyze, organize, and integrate raw data from various sources to build systems and pipelines that meet business objectives. Ensure data quality and reliability to provide optimal data assets for Data Analysts and Data Scientists.Modern Data Solutions Implementation: Leverage tools like Azure Data Factory, Data Lake, Databricks, Azure SQL, and Synapse to create efficient and innovative solutions.Business Requirement Analysis: Evaluate new and evolving business needs, assessing feasibility and identifying how to accommodate them optimally.Collaboration and Coordination: Work with Data & Analytics, IT-BTS, and external development teams to align configurations and customizations with business requirements and performance standards.Issue Resolution and Testing: Follow up with external developers on platform-related problems, ensure root causes are identified and resolved, and conduct UAT, performance, and regression testing for new and existing developments.System and Project Monitoring: Supervise the performance of production systems and project pipelines, ensuring smooth operations, resolving issues, and implementing functional or technical enhancements as required.Global Change Implementation: Ensure timely assessment and execution of global changes and projects by coordinating solution delivery and supervising development efforts, project plans, and assignments.

This role plays a vital part in delivering reliable data assets, supporting production systems, and driving continuous improvement in data quality and platform performance.

As the Data Engineer Manager in the area of GDC Data Analytics, you will:

1.) Develop and maintenance for the Data applications, projects and enhancements under the Data Platform and Operations team governance, which includes:

Design and develop the data pipelines for the corresponding projects ensuring that are highly available, scalable, reliable, secure, and cost-effectiveCollaborate with GTC, EA and IT Security teams to receive the green light for the chosen topology; ensure that new development will fulfil the security and technical requirementsDesign and document the application topology, technology recommendation and delivery methodology;Work with the project manager and external service providers to estimate the resources, budget and plan. Highlight the known risks. Writes unit/integration tests, contributes to engineering wiki, and documents work.Deliver the development up to the UAT phase and coordinate bug fixing during UATRoll outs and deployments to Production support. Ensuring the cutover is defined and followed up.Ensure Data pipelines maintenance and performance testing.Responsible for the CI/CD of developments 

2.) Central Data Lake Platform optimization and support:

Provide, review and confirm technical solutions aligned with the Data Platform Delivery Team ManagerIdentify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.Ensure quick adoption of new features delivered by Microsoft as part of new data platform servicesCreate and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture ensuring production data is always accurate and available for key stakeholders and business processes that depend on itSupervise and maintain developed data pipelines proactively to ensure high service availability.Investigation and resolution of incidents and change requests, incidents and problems via Service NowCoordinate outsourced resources for required resolutionEnsure that technical specs documentation is regularly maintained and updated

3.) Handle internal/external development team activities for projects involved including but not limited to the following tasks:

Code/Peer review

Communicate the requirements with relevant resourcesVerify technical analysis and estimations given by resourcesLead development activities planning, distribute workload among teams to increase performanceCoordinate efficient internal and external resources utilizationOnboarding of new internal/external consultants for new projects Implement proper unit testing activities and migration between environments;                                       Implement the lessons learnt analysis together with the team at the end of each project.   If applies ensure that externals always provide timesheets on time. Validate and approve TS.

4.) Data analysis and Data quality support for applications, projects and enhancements which includes:

Ensure alignment and consistency to governance policy, global definitions, mapping and business validation rules.Provide data quality requirements for projects and initiatives involved including relevant attributes/characteristics (Rules, KPIs, etc.). Deliver data quality improvements and reporting Data preparation and data cleansing for several business entities in alignment with Data Management team to avoid further data quality issues  Provide oversight and help to facilitate overall Data Quality strategy at JTI in the areas of responsibility.

Requirements:

College or University degree10+ years of experience in Data and Analytics from modelling and reporting standpoint5+ years exposure to IT architecture and solutioning for data flows among system and applications.3+ years delivering solutions on the Microsoft Azure platform with a special emphasis on data solutions and servicesDEVOPS, CI/CD and Data project managementStrong analytical skills and troubleshooting skillsExcellent team leadership and communication skills.Should have good knowledge in testing and validating Analytical solutions Azure Data Lakes experience plus DataBricks and Data FactoryVery good understanding of Azure PaaS management and resource monitoring CI/CD experience and DEVOPSVery good Database skills (Azure SQL and Synapse), scripting and data modelingVery good written and spoken English.
