We’re looking for a Founding Engineer to join our UK-based Client’s team – an early deep-tech company founded by experts in AI, geospatial systems, energy systems, and enterprise software. The product sits at the intersection of machine learning, real-world infrastructure, and high-stakes automated decision systems. 

Project is an AI-powered impact measurement and assessment platform designed for foundations, NGOs, sustainability consultants, and impact-driven organizations. The platform enables users to collect, structure, analyze, and report environmental, social, and economic impact data across programs, portfolios, or projects.

The company works with sophisticated institutional customers and is actively building real production systems -not prototypes. The roadmap is ambitious, the pace is fast, and engineering ownership is core. As one of the first engineers, you will profoundly influence architecture, product decisions, culture, and future hiring. 

Experience / Skills required: 

Must have: 

Experience with backend development (Python, FastAPI or Node.js) and modern UI frameworks (React / Next.js)  Hands-on experience with ML model deployment (e.g., PyTorch or TensorFlow), vector DBs, and data pipelines  Strong experience designing APIs, distributed systems, and working with PostgreSQL / PostGIS or similar databases  Familiarity with agent logic or orchestration frameworks  Comfortable running workloads on AWS or GCP, managing containers (Docker), and scaling workloads (Kubernetes or similar)  Experience implementing CI/CD, monitoring, observability, and security best practices  Comfortable working in ambiguity, owning decisions, and delivering without micromanagement  Upper-Intermediate English and better 

Good to have: 

Experience with geospatial data, GIS tooling, GDAL, raster/vector processing  Background in energy systems, industrial or real-world infrastructure  Prior early-stage startup or founding team experience  Experience building internal platforms or automation tooling  Knowledge of Computer Vision, Reinforcement Learning, or agent frameworks 

Responsibilities: 

Design, develop, and ship core product modules end-to-end  Build and optimize agent-based AI pipelines  Architect backend systems, APIs, and scalable data workflows  Productionize ML models and agent logic for real operational environments  Set up and manage cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, logging, monitoring, and security  Develop geospatial data processing workflows where required  Collaborate closely with founders to iterate quickly and deliver with urgency  Maintain engineering excellence while moving fast  Influence engineering culture, standards, and early team growth
